Any plans regarding '--enable-nvenc'

Post by Selur » Sun Jan 11, 2015 9:04 pm

I noticed that since the end of 2014 ffmpeg has an option to support nvenc (configure with '--enable-nvenc') are there any plans to support this or are there some license issues or similar?

Anybody else got this working?

I got this from a user "
It's just a matter of adding “--enable-nvenc” to config_options (Line 1199). I hard coded it, but it could be an option of course.

FYI, if you want to build this you also need to copy the header files from the NVENC SDK in to the include directory inside the sandbox (one time thing)."

esp. if there are not too many header files LOL

--enable-nvenc requires --enable-nonfree. The resulting build would be nonfree and unredistributable.

OK I added support for this to https://github.com/rdp/ffmpeg-windows-build-helpers
when "non free" option is selected

[I think it might be legal with a free build too, but haven't argued that point with anyone yet]

initial instructions gleaned from this page: https://github.com/Brainiarc7/ffmpeg_li ... 59b0c24d36

Distributing nonfree, unredistributable builds are a violation of the FFmpeg license.

guys, i own Dell Precision M4800 notebook with [email protected], 16GB RAM DDR3, running Win7pro64 with nVidia Quadro K2100M/2GB on board.

should i try to compile my own ffmpeg with nvenc option? will it be huge performance step-up for me using nvenc?

thanks for your opinions!
