help required with hevc_nvenc

Post by PieCaptain » Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:10 pm

I recently bought an Nvideo 1060Ti and switched from using libx265 to hevc_nvenc

the only thing in my command that has changed is the videocodec which i set using a variable (in powershell)

Code: Select all

&$ffmpeg -i $Inputfile -c:v $VideoCodec -c:a aac - map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:$BAT -sn $Output
($BAT is the audio track number to use)

anyway, since switching to hevc_nvenc and the 1060Ti my conversions are faster, but the output files are also a lot bigger.

What can I do to get faster encoding with hevc_nvenc, but at the same size output as when using libx265?

Thanks in advance!

Not much, HW encoders deliver worse quality at the same bitrate, if you are interested in similar quality as x265 then you must accept increase of bitrate - probably about 20 - 30% more than x265.

btw - video codec need to be configured - you didn't provided any video codec configuration thus it is very difficult to say something.
