macOS Builds & Dropped Libraries

Post by Zeranoe » Sat Oct 14, 2017 5:19 pm

I'm pleased to announce that there will be macOS 64-bit builds provided alongside the Windows builds.

The new macOS builds require at least macOS 10.10, which should work on the vast majority of macOS/OS X machines. All external libraries are compiled statically so there are no dependencies for the build. The shared builds include dylib's, but they do not depend on anything external.

With the release of 3.3.4 several of the old libraries were dropped, they were:
  • Frei0r
  • libbs2b
  • libcaca
  • Game Music Emu
  • GSM
  • iLBC
  • Modplug-XMMS
  • OpenCORE AMR
  • OpenH264
  • RTMPDump
  • Speex
  • VisualOn AMR-WB
  • Vorbis
  • XAVS
  • Xvid
Please let me know if you feel any of these libraries should be added back in, or if there are questions as to why one was removed.

OK thank you.

Just wondering, from my dummy user perspective, what functionality is lost with omission of OpenH264 ... what used to be on the ffmpeg commandline and what is it best replaced by in general terms ?

Same for Speex; I don't use it but could foresee a time when I may have uses for it.

Why not use x264?

Speex is pretty unpopular, but if others would like it added back in I will.

There's a thought. OTOH, if someone needed to use ffmpeg, I suppose it would instead be -c:v libx264 instead of -c:v libopenh264

Please no not just for me. If there's better then I'll look around another day.
