Video bit depth

Post by Aorangi » Thu May 09, 2019 10:33 am

Hallo,
I used Davinci resolve for the first time and I didn't care about the video bit depth value as I didn't know it does exist. My first projet has beem made with a bit rate of 10 which give me for a 50mn video a mp4 file from 14Gb.
Is there a fonction in FFmpeg to reduce the V.Bit Depth von to 10 to 8?
Thank you very much
Claude

Check zscale filter https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#zscale-1 - accordingly to some people it is faster, more accurate and more predictable than native libswscale.

I'm a bit confused by the zscale filter suggestion. It does resolution- , range- and colormatrix-conversions, but it doesn't change the pixel-format as far as I know.

Aorangi, I have no idea what "Davinci resolve" is, but if you want to convert your video to 4:2:0 8-bit, then...

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i <input> -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:v <video-codec-of-choise> <output>
...would do the trick.

zscale also does pixel format conversion between planar formats.
