Usage FFMPEG in commercial app

Post by johnnyffmpeg » Tue Nov 10, 2015 1:31 am

Hi,

Can I use FFMPEG in commercial paid app converter?
I do not ask about MP4 licenses, but specifically for FFMPEG.

GUI will use FFMPEG

Thanks

You can use FFmpeg in your app as long as your app complies with GPL 3.0.

Thanks Zeranoe.

Please allow me to understand correctly simple issue with GPL v3
Application will use unmodified windows binaries FFMPEG dlls, exes of mmgeg as external programs, libs.
In this case I have no obligation to publish main gui interface application sources?

another option is to build an LGPL build of ffmpeg and use that.

In general, if you use the dll's and it was built with "--enable-gpl" then you should comply with GPL...

using your compiled ffmpeg.exe launched as command line tool - this also need lgpl in order to use in freeware app? (not gpl)

It must comply with GPL 3.0 however its better to consult with FFmpeg team to not get into any copyright violation later on : )
