adding custom images to MP4 files using cover art

Post by AdmiralSmith » Wed Mar 16, 2016 9:08 pm

I know there is a way to use custom made cover art to a MP4 file so it shows up on the desktop with a custom icon. I had to use a tool called mp3tag to do it but I know there is a way to do it in ffmpeg. As far as I can guess is it attaches as a stream, but maybe I am wrong. Thanks for any advise.

Not sure, but try this. Let's say you have video.mp4 with a cover.jpg and want to create video+cover.mp4:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -i cover.jpg -c:a copy -c:v copy -map 0 -map 1:0 video+cover.mp4
I use XP x64, and it doesn't show thumbnails with videos, but if I play a video created this way, I can see two video tracks in the player, and the second is a mjpeg. Let me know if it works for you.
