I personally like the idea of adding the date. Although that could be because I have no clue about git hashes... Anyway I cast my vote for adding it in.

I had this same problem. For me it turned out to be a problem with pthreads, so I just configured x264 with "--enable-win32thread". FFmpeg started picking it up after this.
I would like to encode to CBR but I am having trouble getting the buffer size right, FFmpeg throws warnings about overflow/underflow. Just wondering how to go about determining the correct buffer size. Thanks all!
