A useful ffmpeg documentation site

If you seek ffmpeg and libav* library documentation, such as higher level design metaphors (as in "what were they thinking?") then this site here seems to have some higher level explainers just like that: https://fossies.org/linux/misc/ffmpeg-3.2.2.tar.gz/ Maybe these are available from a more offic...

seeking information about .stm streams

Hello. I am seeking information about rtsp stream urls that terminate with a .stm extension. I can't seem to find any specific information about that format/protocol. It is listed along with other "common" rtsp urls, but I can't find anything specific. I have a client with dozens of old security cam...

compiling ffmpeg on linux for Windows debugging

Since Linux centric pages don't seem to include this type of information, here is how to build linux versions of ffmpeg with ffplay in a step-wise debuggable form. For Windows developers working on media playback, step-wise following how ffplay, ffserver, and ffprobe work is often not possible on Wi...

Re: Is there a command to insert an image for every second of video?

What you're showing in your command line examples are uses of AVFilters. AVFilters are filters one can apply to any av stream; where a 'filter' can be practically anything that observes and/or transforms data from the stream. The main documentation pages (https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html) have...

Re: ffplay for MFC

Note that this was created with VS 2010, which is no longer available, even with an Enterprise MSDN subscription.

Trying to compile in VS Community 2013 or higher syntax errors.

However, if one does not "update" the project when loading into VS 2012, it compiles clean and runs.

Are you trying to capture your screen as video? Have you seen this: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Capture/Desktop

Re: FFMPEG API

As far as I have been able to tell, the only means is to compile as debug on some flavor of Linux and then step-wise debug your media's logic traveling through the ff-executable you're interested. I am doing that on ubuntu at the moment, to debug a Windows video playback library. Creating a Virtualb...

Re: anyone achieving greater than 15 fps playback?

Thanks. As it turns out, my implementation is for computer vision applications, and having ASAP frame rates is apparently good for our application.

Re: anyone achieving greater than 15 fps playback?

Okay, I found a bug in my GUI framework that was eating my frame rate. Now I have the opposite problem, frames being delivered too fast: a 1920x1080 3 minute h264 video plays back in 9 seconds... any time related information or hints would be welcome for controlling the frame rate.

Re: anyone achieving greater than 15 fps playback?

I have now created a 2nd version of my video player, this one using 2 threads: a reader thread and a "convert to RGB and display" thread - and this one also plays back at no faster than 15 frames per second. Playing an IP live stream (640x480), a USB web cam (640x480), and an (1920x816) H264 video f...
