ALL current compiles binaries of FFPLAY are broken!

Just to let you know, whenever you use FFPLAY to play an MP4 video file with AAC audio, it gives the following error:
SDL advised audio format 33056 is not supported!

I have tried the standard version 3.4 for 64bit
I have tried the standard version 3.4 for 32bit
I have tried the nightly version N-88555-g6ea7711532 for 64bit
I have tried the nightly version N-88555-g6ea7711532 for 32bit

That's ALL of the versions you offer. It seems you guys must have introduced a new bug into your latest Windows release of FFPLAY, that was NOT present in previous versions of FFPLAY. You guys seem to not compile a vanilla version, but rather tinker around with the code a bit, whenever you release a new compiled version, and this time your tinkering has introduced a bug into the software.

Sounds like this, #6721 closed defect (fixed) ffplay fails to initialize audio output on with SDL 2.0.6.
Just not sure how/when the fix on the ffmpeg's side filters through to zeranoe's builds.
But we can always try the next one ;-). [The fix is not in ffmpeg-20171107-ce52e43.]

Also already noted here too, viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5192.

Sounds like this
Maybe that wasn't it.
Or maybe there is more then just that going on?

Elsewhere it was said to set an environmental variable, SDL_AUDIODRIVER, to something like, directsound (in Windows).
And that looks to work on my end.

But why is that needed?

Win7 x64.

It never was needed in the past. In the past, I could just use the following command line to play an MP4 video file with AAC audio stream, with no problems at all (and no special environment variables).

Code: Select all

ffplay.exe video.mp4
Something has been broken on the latest FFMPEG. And it's REALLY broken, as MP4 is the most common video file format currently in use, and it always uses AAC audio.

When you find the bug and fix it, let me know. Until then, I'm going to stick with the copy of FFMPEG and FFPLAY that I already have (a much older version) and not bother upgrading to the VERY BROKEN latest version.
